Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 April 2026 · Applies to users in New Zealand and Australia.

1. Who we are

DealRadar ("DealRadar", "we", "us", "our") is a price-tracking service that lets you save product links, monitor online prices, and receive alerts when prices drop. The service is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], a company registered in New Zealand (NZBN [NZBN]).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect your personal information when you use dealradar.co.nz and any related services (together, the "Service").

We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the thirteen Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). Where we handle personal information of Australian users, we also comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account information — email address, password (stored as a salted hash), and optionally a display name.
  • Wishlist data — product URLs you add, target prices, notes, and notification preferences.
  • Billing information (paid plans only) — name, billing address, and payment details. Card details are collected and processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Communications — messages you send to our support address, feedback, and survey responses.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data — pages viewed, features used, alerts opened, and timestamps.
  • Device & technical data — IP address, approximate location (country/region), device type, operating system, browser, and referrer URL.
  • Cookies and similar technologies — see section 7.

2.3 Information from third parties

  • Price data — we fetch publicly available pricing information from third-party retailer websites. This is product data, not your personal information, but it is linked to your wishlist.
  • Affiliate networks — where you click a tracked link, we may receive reports from affiliate networks confirming that a click or purchase occurred. We do not receive your credit card or account details from retailers.
  • Analytics providers — aggregated reports from analytics tools (see section 7).

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • create and manage your account and wishlist;
  • monitor prices on products you have added and send alerts via the channels you have chosen (email and/or other channels we enable);
  • process subscription payments, issue receipts, and manage cancellations and refunds;
  • provide customer support and respond to your enquiries;
  • maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service;
  • measure the performance of affiliate links and ads, and pay or invoice partners accordingly;
  • show you sponsored deals and advertising that are relevant (you can control personalisation — see section 11);
  • detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and breaches of our Terms;
  • comply with our legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from regulators and authorities.

Under the NZ Privacy Act, we collect personal information only where it is necessary for a lawful purpose connected with our function as a price-tracking service (IPP 1), directly from you wherever practicable (IPP 2), and with notice of how it will be used (IPP 3).

For users covered by the Australian Privacy Act, our collection and use is consistent with the APPs. We rely on the following bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to deliver the Service you signed up for.
  • Consent — for optional marketing, personalised advertising, and non-essential cookies (you can withdraw consent at any time).
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the Service, prevent fraud, and improve product quality, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with tax, consumer, and privacy laws.

5. When we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers (processors) who help us run DealRadar — for example hosting, email delivery, payment processing, analytics, and customer support tools. These providers are bound by contract to use your information only to provide services to us.
  • Affiliate networks and advertisers — we share aggregated or de-identified click and conversion data. Where a network requires it, we may pass an anonymous tracking identifier when you click an affiliate link.
  • Professional advisers — our lawyers, accountants, and auditors, under duties of confidentiality.
  • Authorities and law enforcement — where we are required by law, by a valid court order, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructure, or sale of assets. We will notify you of any change of controller and your choices.

6. Affiliate links and advertising

DealRadar earns revenue in several ways: a free tier, paid subscription plans, affiliate commissions when you click through to a retailer and make a purchase, and sponsored deals or ads highlighted within the Service.

Affiliate and sponsored items are identified as such where required by law (including the NZ Fair Trading Act and the Australian Consumer Law). Earning commission does not change the price you pay. We do our best to show prices accurately, but the final price, availability, and terms are set by the retailer at checkout.

If you do not want to see personalised ads or sponsored deals, you can change this in your account settings or cookie preferences (see section 7).

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary — to log you in, remember your session, and keep the site secure. These cannot be switched off.
  • Functional — to remember your preferences (e.g. currency, notification channel).
  • Analytics — to understand aggregate use of the Service.
  • Advertising / affiliate — to attribute clicks to affiliate networks and, where enabled, to show relevant ads.

On your first visit we show a cookie banner so you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can trigger the change of choice at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.

8. International data transfers

DealRadar is operated from New Zealand. Some of our service providers store or process personal information in other countries.

Before we transfer personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected by privacy safeguards comparable to those in the NZ Privacy Act (IPP 12) and, for Australian users, APP 8. This usually means working with providers that operate under recognised privacy frameworks or that have signed contractual data-protection commitments with us.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law:

  • Account & wishlist data — while your account is active, and for up to 24 months after you close it, to allow reactivation and to resolve disputes.
  • Billing records — at least 7 years, to meet NZ and AU tax record-keeping requirements.
  • Support communications — up to 24 months after the issue is resolved.
  • Log and security data — typically up to 12 months, unless longer retention is needed to investigate an incident.

After these periods we either delete the information or de-identify it so it can no longer be linked to you.

10. How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, regular patching, and backups. No system is completely secure, but if a notifiable privacy breach occurs we will notify affected users and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (NZ) and/or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

11. Your rights and choices

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you (IPP 6 / APP 12).
  • Correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete (IPP 7 / APP 13).
  • Delete your account and associated personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Export a copy of your wishlist and account data.
  • Opt out of marketing emails (every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link) and of personalised advertising.
  • Withdraw consent for any processing based on consent, without affecting prior lawful processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@dealradar.co.nz. We will respond within 20 working days (NZ) or 30 days (AU).

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to:

  • New Zealand: Office of the Privacy Commissioner — privacy.org.nz.
  • Australia: Office of the Australian Information Commissioner — oaic.gov.au.

12. Children

DealRadar is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will let you know by email or by a prominent notice on the Service before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when this version was published.
